hypocrisy

Hell is other people.

                           -Sartre-

(Since we’ live in a world full of other people…does it then follow that we’re all in hell?…..someone enlighten me,please….)

I have, in the past dismissed Counter Strike as a pointless game of senseless violence.

I stand by this opinion.

It IS violent.

I have seen my friends, succumbing one by one, like zombies to the spell of this seemingly addictive game. ( Apparently we have a thing called the 6 Clan…)

So I decided to explore it.

Know thy enemy, Wise Man says.

So today, during a 2 hour break, I decided to join some friends for a round of good ol’ killing.

I didn’t actually play, but to be honest, just watching them SHOOT PEOPLE was strangely……fascinating..And invigorating…hehe….( blood splatters everywhere…whee…)

It was actually fun.

I admit (guiltily) that the most FUN bit was watching my friend kill people.

She got killed so many times, that whenever she managed to kill anyone, I felt satisfied on her behalf.

Vengeance, as they say, is sweeeeeeeeeet.

I was kinda pleased after that. Felt less angry at the world.

When I got back to class, some people (talk about the pot calling the kettle black) ATTACKED me for being a hypocrite.

But you said it was a cruel game! Bla bla bla….”

Yes. I did.

It IS A POINTLESS GAME OF SENSELESS VIOLENCE.

I ADMIT THAT.

Violent games ARE violent. That’s obvious.

But wait. Why did it make me feel so satisfied?

I laugh in the face of danger. Then I hide until it goes away.”

Realisation dawns.

Why is it wrong to enjoy these games? At the very least, they’re an outlet for pent up anger and hostility.

Obviously I don’t mean that they should be made part of anger management courses,or anything like that-but what is SO WRONG with enjoying a game?

Its not like anyone actually dies..

Well, not in my head, anyway.

Wouldn’t it be better to channel your anger on a COMPUTER…than internalise it and spend years in therapy trying to figure out why you’re so damn screwed up?

[ Unless you’re someone who spends all his time at the cafe and looks a bit like an addict….ahem ahem…]

So..

Yea.

Say what you want.

I still think CS is violent.

But that doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to enjoy it.

So there!
