At the risk of making Ashwin hungry…here are pictures from my grandpa’s birthday party, which is held on the 2nd day of Chinese New Year every year…
Its a great opportunity for us to collect angpau (red packets filled with money…yay..)..and celebrate our grandpa’s birthday, but of course!!!
Food for the hungry masses
This here is yee sang, which is a must-have for Chinese New Year…made up of brightly coloured pickled vegetables (I hope), fresh pomelo, sliced apples and pears, pickled jellyfish (yes…) and of course, raw salmon seasoned with sesame oil, soy sauce and pepper…Just before it’s served, plum sauce, crushed peanuts and crisps are poured over. Then everybody attacks the dish with chopsticks, tossing (I use this term loosely) everything together while toasting(?) everyone else with wishes of good luck and prosperity.Mostly I end up with a lot of food all over my hands.
Spending time with family is nice.
Even more so when you “get paid” to do it!
Happy Holidays, everyone!
